Marlon J. Monelyon-Demeritt, O.D., M.B.A., FAAO
Marlon J. Monelyon-Demeritt, O.D., M.B.A., FAAO received an Associate in Arts Degree from Miami-Dade Community College in 1998, and completed his requirements for a Bachelor of Science Degree with concentration in Biological Sciences in 2000 from Florida International University (FIU). He graduated from Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in 2004 with a Doctor of Optometry Degree. After graduating, he completed a one-year residency at The Malcom Randall VA & UF Shands, in affiliation with the NSU College of Optometry. After several years in practice, Dr. Monelyon-Demeritt returned to school to complete the requirements for a Master’s in Business Administration.
After completion of his residency, Dr. Monelyon-Demeritt worked for several practices. Dr. Monelyon-Demeritt gained extensive and invaluable experience as a consultant for patients pursuing refractive surgery. In addition, Dr. Monelyon-Demeritt worked in subspecialty ophthalmology practices conducting pre & post exams for cataract surgery patients, managing glaucoma and retina patients, and serving as the Director of The Dry Eye Service at East Florida Eye Institute located in Stuart, FL. In addition to serving as the Director of The Dry Eye Service, Dr. Monelyon-Demeritt also served as a sub-investigator for glaucoma trials, such as Inotek: Adenosine Inhibitor.
In August 2012, Dr. Monelyon-Demeritt joined the NSU Faculty as adjunct professor precepting 3rd & 4th year students. In February 2013, Dr. Monelyon-Demeritt joined the Nova Southeastern Faculty on a full- time basis as an Assistant Professor. In July 2022, Dr. Monelyon-Demeritt, received a rank promotion to Associate Professor.
Dr. Monelyon-Demeritt has served as an examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. In addition, he has lectured to The Internal Medicine Department at Shands and Physician Assistants at their annual PA conference on eye-related conditions. Dr. Monelyon-Demeritt has authored posters that were submitted to ARVO, SECO, and AOA. Dr. Monelyon-Demeritt's clinical interests are ocular disease, specifically retinal disease and glaucoma, and accommodative & vergence anomalies.
Dr. Monelyon-Demeritt is a Fellow and member of the American Academy of Optometry.
